Teacher's Comment:
Our School was delighted to have a series of workshops delivered by Dale Treadwell in November 07. It was clear from the outset that Dale was enthusiastic about and committed to conservation and caring for the earth. A series of four workshops were arranged and both teachers and pupils thoroughly enjoyed Dale's energetic and very informative presentations. The sessions were very interactive with lots of pupil participation. Dale succeeded in harnessing the interests of this wide age range from 4-12. Each 'fun filled' session encouraged pupils to respect and care for their local environment and the pupils gained new insights into wildlife and habitats. Dale brought a variety of visual aids and his 'animal' story with the Junior and Senior Infants was a major hit. At the end of each session, the pupils had lots of questions and Dale ensured that these questions were answered. The senior pupils were really fascinated by 'the ball of string' approach to food webs and chains. Dale also took time in the afternoon to talk to the school's Green Team committee and planted a variety of native Irish trees in our woodland area. Dale was an excellent 'eco warrior' role model for the pupils and he clearly 'walks the talk'! There was a real 'buzz' in the staff room following each of the sessions with teachers claiming Dale was the best facilitator they had experienced in their teaching career. I would fully endorse their evaluation of Dale's workshops. In promoting a knowledge of wildlife and protecting our local environment, he is 'simply the best'!
